End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

Goal 2 seeks to end hunger and malnutrition while ensuring access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food for all. London Met promotes food security and health through specialised nutrition programmes, affordable food policies and community support.

This page highlights London Met's ongoing initiatives and key achievements from the 2024/25 academic year, demonstrating efforts to advance SDG 2.

Supporting Students Facing Food Insecurity

London Met Students' Union provides information and support for students experiencing food insecurity, including access to a campus food bank and signposting to additional food support services available across London. These services help ensure that students can access essential support when needed.

Healthy, Affordable and Sustainable Food

We are committed to ensuring that food available on campus is healthy, affordable and environmentally sustainable. Our Sustainable and Ethical Food Policy promotes:

  • healthy and nutritious food choices;
  • vegetarian and vegan options across campus catering;
  • responsible sourcing of food products;
  • support for local and sustainable suppliers.

Reducing Food Waste

London Met monitors food waste generated through campus catering operations and works with catering partners to minimise waste and improve resource efficiency. By measuring food waste and promoting sustainable consumption, we support efforts to reduce the environmental impact of food production and disposal.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 targets agreed upon by all UN Member States in 2015. Their purpose is to create a better and more sustainable future for everyone by 2030. They address major global issues such as poverty, inequality, climate action, and education, requiring all countries to work together to achieve these ambitious targets.
