Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Goal 4 seeks to ensure access to fair, impartial, and quality education throughout life, increase relevant skills for employment and entrepreneurship, and eliminate gender and income disparities in education access.

Our initiatives in quality education include diverse academic programmes, public events, and partnerships that support accessible learning.

This page highlights London Met's ongoing initiatives and key achievements from the 2024/25 academic year, demonstrating efforts to advance SDG 4.

Widening Access to Higher Education

Our Access and Participation Plan sets out our commitment to improving access, success and progression for students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. Through targeted outreach and student support initiatives, we work to ensure that higher education remains accessible to everyone with the potential to benefit from it.

Lifelong Learning Opportunities

London Met offers a range of short courses that enable learners to develop new skills, enhance their professional knowledge and access education at different stages of life. These courses support lifelong learning and help individuals respond to changing personal and professional needs.

Sharing Knowledge with the Public

Throughout 2024/25, we hosted a programme of public lectures, talks and events through initiatives such as our Architecture, Art and Design (AAD) Sessions. These events provide opportunities for students, professionals and members of the public to engage with contemporary ideas, research and practice.

Access to Learning Resources

Our library's Special Collections are available to external visitors, supporting access to unique archive and research materials for researchers, community groups and members of the public. By opening these collections beyond the university community, we help make educational resources more widely accessible.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 targets agreed upon by all UN Member States in 2015. Their purpose is to create a better and more sustainable future for everyone by 2030. They address major global issues such as poverty, inequality, climate action, and education, requiring all countries to work together to achieve these ambitious targets.
